Melanie is a very
special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her ‘our little genius.’
Every morning,
Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her,
Sergeant Parks keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her
into the wheelchair. She thinks they don’t like her. She jokes that she won’t
bit, but they don’t laugh.
Melanie loves school.
She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom
and the children’s cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she’ll
do when she grows up. Melanie doesn’t know why this make Miss Justineau look
sad.
I
found this book at Target and the summary didn’t make any sense. I hate it when
a summary gives you no real clue on what the story is about (I decided to give
you the same summary to show you what I mean). I wasn’t sure about this book
until I found out it was being made into a movie (Release date: September 23,
2016). Here’s the movie poster:
The
movie trailer gave more information. It’s basically another zombie apocalyptic,
end of the world book. Can’t anyone write about the human race surviving? Like
in Futurama. Then again that might be
too unrealistic. I don’t know why I keep reading these ‘end of the world’
books. They are so depressing and only a handful of them are any good. I only
read this one because it’s being made into a movie and I wanted to read the
book before seeing the movie.
The
‘Hungrys’, as they are called in the book, aren’t exactly zombies, more
zombie-like. It’s some sort of fungus. They try to explain it but I don’t
really get it. Zombies are one of my favorite monsters and I was happy when
more books, TV shows and movies came out about them. People have come up with
many different types of zombies and I’m happy to say that this book has come up
with a new original type of zombie. Check out the video ‘Top 10 Zombie Types in Movies and TV’ from WatchMojo.com on
YouTube if you want to learn more about zombies.
The thing is that I don’t know when or if this movie will be
in theaters in the U.S. since the book and movie originate in the U.K. If not I
hope to watch it on DVD.
I have never read a zombie book. I am not sure they are for me. I do agree with you thought that the book jacket summary didn't tell much of anything about the book.
